This week’s NCAA Roundup is an all ECAC Hockey edition with two alumni earning weekly honours in that conference.

ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week

Nathan Free – Freshman – Union College (Brooks Bandits)

Free picked up an assist on his team’s first goal of the game last Friday, and then went on to net the game-winner on the power play in Union’s 4-1 win over Niagara University. The next night, he tallied another assist on his team’s second goal of the game in an eventual 5-4 overtime loss in a rematch against Niagara.

Free played two seasons in the BCHL, both with the Brooks Bandits. He averaged over a point per game, finishing his stint in the league with 87 in 74 games on 40 goals and 47 assists. In his final year with the Bandits in 2024-25, the Calgary, Alta. product put up 66 points to finish eighth in league scoring, while his 30 goals ranked sixth. He won a league championship that season and was named a Second-Team All-Star.

ECAC Hockey Defenceman of the Week

Andrew Brown – Sophomore – St. Lawrence University (Nanaimo Clippers)

Brown tallied two assists on the first and third goals in the Saints home opener against Long Island University last Tuesday. It was not enough as the Saints fell 7-6 to LIU. After a weekend off, St. Lawrence will look to bounce back as they open conference play Nov. 6 when they host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The 2005-born defender played parts of two seasons with the Nanaimo Clippers, amassing 13 goals, 35 assists and 48 points in 70 BCHL games.
